I have selected Maddy Morphosis as my influencer of choice that I do not know. Maddy Morphosis is a new contestant recently announced for season 14 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. I chose them as, with most new contestants on the show, I know nothing about them other than they perform in drag. Even more so, I chose Maddy as they are the first drag queen in RuPaul drag race “herstory” that identifies as a straight cis-male. I was to locate their Instagram, Twitter, and website where they go by @MaddyMorphosis on each. From their accounts, I discovered that they started drag in 2017. Because of the culture within drag, I did not gather their identity from their posts, though I believe that may be more of an ignorance thing that a true assessment from viewing their accounts. I know they identify as a cis-male from an interview they participate in recently. Though controversial in the LGBT community right now, I would consider Maddy to be a digital leader as they are breaking a barrier (though some consider the barrier to never have been there). When first becoming aware of them, I thought them to be “well put together” but it was interesting to see their amateur make-up looks and performances on their social media—it almost created a sense of humanity within an influence that can sometimes seem less-human. One thing I noticed on their accounts that I will not apply to my own (especially in the sense of drag) is that there are great gaps in time between posts. I believe one of the most important things is consistently marketing yourself and not posting online prevents that. I really enjoyed this activity because there’s a big debate in the LGBT community about straight people taking away queer spaces and I haven’t yet made an opinion on that topic regarding MaddyMorphosis, so it was nice to view their art and personality online with focusing on that area of their presence.
